Mumbai : Supermarket chain Subhiksha Friday said it was entering Kerala with an outlay of Rs.500 million ($12 million) to start some 70 stores in the state.
The decision follows successful operations in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Subhiksha said in a statement.
“Our goal of becoming India’s favourite neighbourhood store is well on its way. We want to be able to provide customers from all segments of society, all parts of the country, with a viable smart shopping option,” said Subhiksha Managing Director R. Subramanian.
“With Kerala, we have activated our next phase of expansion. We hope to hit the 1,000-store mark during 2007,” Subramanian said, adding that the outlay for the next phase of expansion is set at Rs.5 billion.
