Chandigarh : In a bid to tackle the growing number of accidents in the state, the Haryana government Sunday announced it would impart training in driving skills to 10,000 drivers.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who laid the foundation stone of the Modern driving school and road safety institute at Padla village in Kaithal district, 100 km from here, said that proper training was important for drivers of heavy vehicles.
The driving school and road safety institute will be constructed in an area of 11 acres and would cost Rs.100 million. It will start functioning next year.
Hooda said that some seats at the driving institute would be reserved for youth from Padla village – where the village council had donated 11 acres land free of cost.
Haryana has some of the busiest national highways (NHs) in the country – including NH-1 (Ambala to Delhi) and NH-8 (Gurgaon to Jaipur). The state has nearly a dozen national highways.
