One attacker rammed his explosives-laden car into a police checkpoint at the entrance of a bridge in Zafaraniya district in southern Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Almost simultaneously, another car bomb in suicide attack hit a police station in the same area, the source said.

"According to our latest report, the twin blasts killed at least 10 people and injured 25 others, including policemen," the source added.

Violence persists in Baghdad despite the presence of tens of thousands of US and Iraqi soldiers across the capital in a major security crackdown aiming at curbing insurgency and sectarian violence in the war-torn country.
