Jaipur : The Rajasthan government will provide office buildings and land to energy major Cairn India for setting up an enterprise centre that will promote vocational skill development in Barmer in Rajasthan.
"The Rajasthan government will provide buildings and space to develop the enterprise centre, which is an integral part of the socio-economic development initiatives in Rajasthan," Cairn officials said.
Land and buildings at the Industrial Training Institute in Barmer will be leased to the company for a period of three-five years. Cairn India and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will in this time develop the enterprise centre with modern resources for training.
"It is a historical step for the maximum utilization of the technical education resources," Vasudev Devnani, Rajasthan's minister for technical education, told IANS Saturday.
The agreement to this effect was signed Tuesday.
Devnani added that the population of the area would get immense benefits from the proposed centre.
While IFC will manage the programme, Cairn would be the financial sponsor. An executive committee comprising representatives from IFC and Cairn will oversee the implementation of the project.
The enterprise centre is one of the key elements of the agreement between IFC and Cairn India who have a joint funding mechanism over a three-year period. Apart from the enterprise centre in Barmer, the two firms will also support a rural dairy development project to create alternative income generation activities for rural households and a child and maternal health awareness project for women.
