Over 35 fire tenders of Delhi Fire Service were deployed to fight the blaze in the Guru Nanak Market complex of Kashmere Gate. The fire broke out at around 9.45 p.m. Sunday on the second floor of the complex, which comprises mostly auto-spare parts shops.

"We have a tough job dousing the flames because of the narrow lanes. It will take another hour or so," a fire official said.

He said that lack of fire prevention equipment in the market complex caused the fire to spread.

"Initial investigations suggest that short circuit could be the cause of the fire," said a police official.
