Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government Friday ordered a magisterial enquiry into Thursday's alleged police atrocities on villagers in Sarguja district in which more than 35 people protesting the mystery death of a hotel owner were injured.
The government also placed a station house officer Ramakant Sharma under suspension.
The trouble in Ajaibnagar in Sarguja district, about 350 km from here, started Thursday morning when angry villagers staged road blockade against the alleged murder of Vijay Deonath, who, according to police, committed suicide.
According to the villagers, Vijay was a murdered and the police were trying to shield the matter.
Though police claimed that it used only mild force, dozens of villagers that include women and senior citizens were injured.
Even villagers were dragged out from the hospital and allegedly bashed up by the police, who claimed that using force was necessitated when some youths started pelting stones when the security personnel tried to clear the road blockade.
