"The mayor of London is helping to hold the 'India New' show, which would be held for three months from July. It will have on display the entire panorama of Indian culture," Tourism Secretary Christy Fernandez said at a meet organised by the Punjab, Haryana and Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) here Friday evening.

"The show in New York will coincide with the UN General Assembly and will be on from Sep 22 to 25. It will have on display various facets of India's culture and folk arts," he said.

These shows are part of the government's efforts to promote tourism and attract more visitors from abroad. It aims at conveying the message that India is a "year round" destination with value for money, Fernandez said.

He, however, ruled out standardization of hotel tariffs. "I am against common tariffs. Let there be competition. Let us work for improving the competitiveness of the tourism sector."
