"We have given approval for opening of polytechnic, pharmacy and paramedical colleges. Also, we have added 1,070 seats in the existing private and government polytechnic colleges," Minister of State for Education Vasu Devnani told IANS Saturday.

The proposed institutions will come up under public-private partnership, with an investment of over Rs.2 billion.

The new polytechnics will benefit from special concessions Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had announced a couple of years back, including free land and building for women polytechnics.

Devnani said the new colleges would help thousands of students in the state who fail to get admissions in the existing technical colleges. "They will not have to go out of the state for studies," he said.

There are 28 polytechnics in the state of which 26 are in the public sector while two are private. The 12 new polytechnics will have 240 seats each, taking the total number of polytechnic seats in Rajasthan to 7,640.
