Lucknow : A court in Agra Wednesday issued a non-bailable warrant against Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Vikram Singh for non-compliance of a court summons.
The summons had been issued following a complaint lodged by the father of an alleged gangster, Ashok Dixit, way back in 1980, when Singh was a superintendent of police (rural area).
Dixit, who has several cases of heinous crimes pending against him, was arrested on Oct 15 in a murder case. He was carrying a reward of Rs.5,000 on his head.
According to the Agra police, a complaint was moved against Singh by the gangster’s father in 1980 expressing apprehension that Dixit would be picked up by Singh and killed in a fake police shootout.
The complaint was pending in a lower court in Agra all these years. The court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Singh 10 years ago for not responding to court summons. He, however, sought bail after appearing before the court.
The official did not respond to subsequent summons, following which lower court judge Daya Ram issued a non-bailable warrant against him Wednesday afternoon.
When contacted, Singh told IANS: “I have reasons to believe that there is some mischief somewhere. The court was told that I was not available to receive the summons. Now tell me who would be willing to buy this alibi that a court summons could not be served on the state police chief?”
