Kabul : Afghan troops backed by NATO forces Saturday launched an operation against Taliban insurgents in Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan, killing about 12 insurgents, the police said.
“In the operation launched this morning against Taliban in Jalai district, around 12 militants have been killed,” the provincial police chief told Xinhua.
There were no casualties of Afghan and NATO troops, he added.
However, Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi said that only three insurgents were killed while the militants had destroyed two military vehicles.
The fresh operation came after a Taliban attack in Jalai district of Kandahar Friday, which killed six people including four policemen.
