The 89-year-old former Congress chief minister, who had split from the party to form his own Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran and has now declared that he is willing to return without any conditions, sent out another clear message.

“At no cost shall I deviate from the ideology of Indira Gandhi who guided us all along. A feature of Indiraji was that she took into confidence all Congressmen,” Karunakaran told the gathering.

Just last week, on Nov 14, Karunakaran held a meeting in memory of Jawaharlal Nehru at his home. Hoping to send a broad hint to the leadership in Delhi, which is yet to respond to his overtures, he did not attend the programme organised by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

For the past two weeks, Karunakaran has disassociated himself from the NCP to which he had aligned himself.

The veteran has been waiting for a call from Delhi to meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for more than a month. He is now hoping to meet her when she visits the Kerala capital later this month.
