Speaking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, Hosseini said that three reasons were behind the improvement of security situation in Iraq.

“Increasing the security situation in different parts of Iraq was due to the strengthening of the role played by the Iraqi government, further activation of the Iraqi police and security forces as well as reduction of interference of other forces,” Hosseini argued.

Stressing Iran’s “completely constructive” role in Iraq’s developments, the spokesman said during the three rounds of direct talks with the US forces in Iraq about the country’s security situation, “Tehran has always presented its explicit proposals to resolve the war-torn country’s security crisis.”
Providing Iraqi police and security personnel with proper equipment and authority as well as strengthening of al-Maliki’s government were among major recommendations made by Tehran.

Tehran and Washington have so far held three rounds of talks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad about the country’s security crisis.

The talks were respectively held on May 28, July 24 and August 6 with the the participation of Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazemi Qomi, his US counterpart Ryan Crocker and representatives of the Iraqi government.
