U. Nageswara Rao, 45, was kidnapped by four people from his house in West Marredpally here Friday morning.

According to Karimnagar District Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar, the abducted man was rescued from a forest at Rayalapally village Sunday night but died while being shifted to Karimnagar.

“There were no external injuries. We suspect that he could have died due to cardiac arrest,” said the police official.

Four kidnappers, two of them believed to be the Mumbai-based financiers, had kept him on a hillock near the village. All the four have been arrested.

The police had reportedly traced Rao late Saturday through a travel agent whose vehicle was used for the kidnapping, but waited till Sunday so that they could arrest all the kidnappers.

The financiers were trying to recover loans extended to Rao’s brother-in-law Nagaraju in Mumbai.

Nagaraju reportedly secured a loan of Rs.25 million and went into hiding two years ago after suffering losses in business.

The financiers had been frequenting Rao’s house for Nagaraju’s whereabouts, and Friday took him away in a four-wheeler.

Rao’s brother Srinivas lodged a complaint with the police, following which a kidnapping case was registered. The family received a call Sunday morning from the kidnappers, who demanded Rs.25 million as ransom.
