US embassy delegation visits Darul Uloom Deoband

Deoband: A delegation from US embassy in New Delhi visited Darul Uloom Deoband on November 15, 2007. Members of the delegation held talks with rector of Darul Uloom Deoband Maulana Marghoobur Rahman and its vice-rector Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman for long hours.

According to the informed sources, US embassy’s delegation posed several questions regarding issues sensitive to Muslims. They were especially interested in knowing the realities of sectarian differences. The delegation also endeavoured to know about educational syllabus, method of teaching and other details of Madrasa system. Speaking on behalf of all Islamic Madrasas and pleading for them, Maulana Marghoobur Rahman said on this occasion that Islamic Madrasas are harbinger of peace and tranquility and human values and love for peace is taught here. Madrasas have nothing to do with terrorism, he said. Islam is a universal religion and preaches peace and justsice for humanity in entire world. US delegation included Douglas McKock, James Terra and Dinesh Dubey. Sudden arrival of this high profile US delegation at Darul Uloom Deoband has stirred a debate among intellectuals here.

Founded in 1866, Darul Uloom at Deoband is the oldest Islamic seminary in India .
