Nagpur : The Maharashtra state assembly was adjourned for the day Wednesday as a mark of respect for senior Shiv Sena leader and former minister Pramod Navalkar, who died in Mumbai Tuesday.

After paying tributes to Navalkar, who was a legislator for over two decades, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh moved the condolence resolution in the state assembly while Deputy Chief Minister R. R. Patil paid homage to the Shiv Sena member in the legislative council.

While making the unanimous gesture to suspend the day’s business for the former member of both houses, members resolved to make up for the lost time by sitting extra hours on the remaining days of the two-week winter session which began here Monday.

Almost no business has been transacted in the legislature so far – the houses were adjourned on the opening day in homage to former chief minister and deputy chief minister Babasaheb Bhosale and Ramrao Adik respectively and because of bedlam created by Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party members over the farm loan waiver demand.
