The press attache of the Multinational Force in Iraq Janah Homoud told KUNA Tuesday that rescue operations were underway, without providing any further details.

The helicopter fell down in Salman Bek town, 25 km southeastern Baghdad, Homoud noted, where US army sources said that the cause of the crash might be technical.

The chopper had 14 soldiers onboard. The US army refuted that the chopper was down due to enemy fire.

The chopper was completely destroyed by US forces in order to prevent any armed groups from approaching it, Homoud said, noting that ambulances rushed to the scene to evacuate casualties.
