Tehran : Iran is working on “a new idea” for settling the dispute over its nuclear programme, the foreign ministry said Sunday.

“The new idea is currently being discussed and is to be presented at the next round of talks with (European Union foreign policy chief Javier) Solana,” Mohammad-Ali Hosseini told reporters at a press conference.

He did not disclose the content of the new idea but confirmed that chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili would meet Solana in London on Nov 30.

Jalili first spoke of the new idea Thursday during a seminar on Iran’s nuclear programme in Tehran.

The spokesman once again stressed that as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran had the right to include uranium enrichment in its nuclear programmes.

Although the IAEA confirmed earlier this month Tehran’s improved cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, the main demand of world powers – suspending the enrichment process – is still being rejected by the Iranian government.

The outcome of Solana’s meeting with Jalili and renewed IAEA inspections scheduled for Dec 11 are expected to clarify whether the world powers would punish the Islamic state with another UN resolution and harsher sanctions or not.
