Bhopal : Lawyers in Madhya Pradesh Monday abstained from work condemning serial blasts in three towns of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and demanded the state government provide government jobs to the kin of those killed.
The five blasts Friday in Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow killed at least a dozen people and have left more than 80 injured.
At a meeting in the Bhopal court premises, Bhopal Bar Association President Vijay Chowdhry urged the UP government to give another Rs.200,000 as compensation to the families of those killed in the blasts.
“The compensation of Rs.200,000 provided by the UP government is nothing compared to the cost of living these days and the families of the victims should be paid another Rs.200,000 as compensation,” Chowdhry said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the State Bar Council Rameshwar Neekhra asked the lawyer fraternity not to be disturbed by such incidents and to unite for the fight against terrorism.
He said that no lawyer in the state would take up any case of a terrorist.
Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association Secretary Sanjay Seth said lawyers were deeply hurt with the death of members of their fraternity and added that it was the responsibility of the union government to prevent such attacks.
