In the other incident, also Tuesday, a female suicide bomber targeted the US troops in the city of Baquba, capital of Diyala province, wounding seven US soldiers.

The woman wearing an explosives-packed vest blew herself up near the troops, wounding the soldiers and five Iraqi civilians, the military said in a brief statement.

Diyala province was a scene of yet another suicide bomb attack Tuesday, when a suicide bomber targeted a police checkpoint outside Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, killing six people and wounding seven.

Recently, the US and Iraqi troops launched a series of military offensives against Al Qaeda militants in the province. The province has been a hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence between the Sunni and Shiite communities.
