The Indian rated 2661 had earlier drawn his first game in just 17 moves.

The players will now clash in Rapid format to break the tie and in case they fail to do so, they will play two Blitz games and then sudden death.

Out of the 32 second round matches, 12 are still undecided and among those waiting are favourites Vasilly Ivanchuk and Magnus Carlsen.

Ruslan Ponomariov, as usual, equalised the match in the second game, and he now has his usual tie-break chance against Wang Hao of China. Teimour Radjabov was not that lucky, as he also lost his second game to B. Macieja.

Thus far in the first two rounds only Peter Svidler has won all his games. Ten other players have conceded a single draw on their way to round three.

Viswanathan Anand has skipped the tournament and four other Indians lost in the first round.
