US Immigrants Lack Medical Insurance

Washington, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) Nearly one-third of immigrants in the United States do not have medical insurance in spite of holding the so called “undesirable jobs,” research revealed on Thursday.

According to the Center for Studies on Immigration, 30 percent of foreign residents in the country, including children, do not have guaranteed medical treatments.

In the case of people born in the United States of foreign parents, 13 percent lack health insurance.

The number of immigrants in the country is now up to 37.9 million, 11.3 million of whom are illegal.

“If we want to have a true debate on medical insurance, we should recognize that a large number of those who lack those guarantees are immigrants, including many children born in the United States,” asserted Steven A. Cammarota, director of the center.
