Delhi : Jamaat-e-Islami Hind secretary-general Nusrat
Ali expressed his sense of sadness and grief on the sad demise of Maulana Mohammad Yamin, president Hashimpura Legal Advisory Committee, and prayed to Allah for his forgiveness.
Late Maulana Yamin had been spearheading the case of Hashimpura victims since the communal riots erupted in Meerut and its adjoining areas in 1987.
In a statement released here Thursday, JIH secretary-general said the way Maulana Yamin had been
fighting the case of Hashimpura victims with utmost sincerity and commitment since the very beginning is indeed exemplary.
"Only recently he had paid a visit to Jamaat headquarters to have discussions with Jamaat leaders as well as to get a copy of the special issue of English weekly Radiance on Meerut riots published long back in 1987, soon after the riots. Then his concern for seeking justice for Hashimpura victims even in
his old age was quite evident," said the statement.
"Besides rendering service to the victims of Hashimpura, taking keen interest in getting the problems solved and making tireless striving for it was his second nature. As a corporator he established a brilliant record of selfless service to the people of Meerut, for which he would be remembered for long," it added.
JIH secretary-general hoped that God willing the concerted efforts made by Late Maulana Yamin would one day bring justice to the victims of Hashimpura and send the guilty behind the bars.
