Pyongyang : North Korea said Friday it would disable its nuclear facilities by the end of 2007 on the principle of “action for action”.
“The US decided to take such political measures as de-listing North Korea as a terrorism sponsor and putting an end to the application of the Trading with the Enemy Act in return for neutralization of North Korea’s nuclear facilities by the end of 2007,” the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a report.
But the report, the first from North Korea’s official media since the joint document of six-party talks was released Wednesday in Beijing, did not mention Pyongyang’s obligation to provide a declaration of its nuclear programmes by the end of 2007.
The six-party talks, which involve China, Russia, the U.S., North Korea, Japan and South Korea, ended in Beijing Wednesday with a joint document on the second-phase actions toward the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
In the joint document, North Korea agreed to disable its existing nuclear facilities and provide a declaration of all its nuclear programmes by the end of this year.
