Cent-Asian Organizations Strengthen Cooperation

Dushambe, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The agreement signed between Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCS) and the Collective Treaty Security Organization (OTSC) will strengthen collaboration in this field, stated one of the signatories here on Saturday.

The document will enable widening coordination of regional entities in the struggle against transnational delinquency and repression of drug trafficking, asserted OCS general secretary Bolat Nurgaliev.

The agreement sealed does not mean that the two bodies hope to compete with the NATO in the region, as many people think, clarified the OTSC General Secretary Nikolai Bordiuzha.

The North Atlantic bloc, specialized in security, like the OTSC, does not constitute a rival or enemy for us and we propose to fight illegal drug trafficking together, noted Bordiuzha.

The OTSC is made up of Armenia, Belarus, Kazajastan, Kirguistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the OCS is integrated by China, Russia, Kazajastan, Kirguistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and Observers form Mongolia, Iran, India and Pakistan.

In recent meeting the OTSC Defense Ministers approved the creation of a multinational peaceful force that could fulfill mission outside the area of responsibility by UN request.
