US Kills 25 Iraqis, Possible Civilians

Baghdad, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) At least 25 persons died and another 28 were wounded in a US air strike in northern Iraqi city of Baquba, capital of Diyala, on Friday.

Before dawn and following a combat with the insurgency, American warplanes shelled Khalis neigborhood in Baquba, police said.

According to occupation forces, all the victims were insurgents, but an Iraqi officer who remained anonymous said that several dead were civilians.

Local authorities described the US air raid as one of the bloodiest of the last months in the region.

The US Command made no comments on those statements.

In a separate operation in Samarra city, north of Baghdad, three Iraqi soldiers died and nine others were wounded in skirmish with alleged members of Al Qaeda.

The Iraqi military added that another 38 persons were arrested in the about 16-hour combat.
