BAGHDAD, Oct 7 (KUNA) — The Multi-National Force in Iraq reported Sunday that some 2,000 Georgian soldiers were deployed near the Iraqi-Iranian borders recently.
An MNF statement said the soldiers of the 3rd Georgian Brigade were deployed to serve in different locations east of Al-Kut City, all the way to the areas near the borders with Iran.
The soldiers are serving on checkpoints, barricades, and alongside units protecting US military bases near the Iranian borders.

he US forces recently announced they were building a military base within Iraqi territory, four miles from the Iranian borders, to curb weapons’ smuggling and infiltration of militants into Iraq.
The said base is to the east of Al-Kut City in Wasit Governorate, and the latter neighbors Iran to the east and the Iraqi capital Baghdad to the north.
The Georgian soldiers are to “provide troops for a joint quick reacion force with the 984th Military Police Company,” among other duties, the MNF statement added.
