Cordoba (Spain) : An international conference to promote inter-faith tolerance and understanding will be organized in this Spanish city from Tuesday.
The conference, being held by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), will have Muslim academicians and thinkers from the OSCE countries, WAM news agency reported Sunday.
Member states from North America, Europe and Central Asia and partner states from Asia and the Mediterranean will take part in the conference called “Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims”. Spain is the current president of the OSCE.
The conference will discuss the media and public discourse as instruments against intolerance toward, and discrimination against, Muslims, said Spanish Foreign Minister Angel Moratinos.
“Feelings of grievance and radicalisation lead to frustration and despair. Muslims themselves must avoid ambiguity and doublespeak and become involved in the life of the society to which they belong”, the Spanish minister said.
“It (the conference) is all the more significant in that in recent years there has occurred a conspicuous demographic change in many countries, and nowadays Islam is professed by millions within the European Union. In Spain alone, hundreds of thousands of Muslims live peacefully with us, as do we with them”, the foreign minister said.
