Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin “made no words” on Iranian nuclear issue during his just-ended visit, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks to reporters on the sidelines of the general meeting of the High Council for Provinces, in response to earlier reports that Putin had brought forward a nuclear proposal to Iran’s supreme leader during his Tehran tour.
Putin had carried a message of friendship and cooperation for Iran, but “made no words about Iranian nuclear issue,” Ahmadinejad told the reporters.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency Wednesday quoted the country’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani as saying that Putin gave a “message” to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and “nuclear issue was part of it and we are now examining it.”
According to the report, Khamenei told Putin he would “consider the proposals”, but insisted Iran would “continue to satisfy the needs of the country in nuclear energy and that’s why Iran takes seriously enrichment issue.”
Putin arrived in Tehran Tuesday to attend the second summit meeting of five Caspian Sea littoral nations also including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
