One dead, six injured as cab overturns in south Delhi

New Delhi : A government employee was killed and six other men were injured when a speeding cab overturned and crushed them under the vehicle while they were drinking tea at a pavement stall in Lado Sarai, south Delhi, Saturday morning.

Police said Delhi Development Authority (DDA) employee Meharchand, a resident of Amrauli in Faridabad, was killed when a Tata Sumo taxi hit him while he was at a pavement tea stall outside his office at DDA Park on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

The rashly driven Tata Sumo swerved, hit the pavement and turned turtle near the tea stall, crushing Meharchand and six others under it.

All the victims were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared Meharchand dead.

The six injured were identified as Gajraj, Ramveer, Babulal, Devendra, Rajagram and Sarin.

The police said cab driver Veerendra was arrested.
