167 world delegates to participate in Quran contest in Mekkah

Riyadh : As many as 167 competitors from 96 countries and 71 Islamic societies and organizations from various parts of the world will participate in the 29th session of King Abdulaziz International Contest for the Holy Quran Memorization, Intonation and Interpretation.

The contest will be organized by the ministry of Islamic affairs, endowments, call and guidance in Makkah this week.

The contest aims at encouraging sons of Muslims to give more attention to the Holy Quran and to associate the Muslims with the teachings of the Holy Quran.

The selection committee comprises Sheikh Mohammed Makki bin Hidayat Allah Abdel-Tawwab, Dr Ibrahim Al-Hiweimil, Dr Ibrahim al-Dosari, Sheikh Abdul Mohsin al-Kassem, Dr Salim al-Zahrani, Dr Othman Aslam al-Sadiqi, as well as five members – one member each from Egypt, Morocco, Yemen, Brunei and Nigeria.

The program of the contest includes meetings with the governor of Makkah, the president of the affairs of the Holy Mosque of Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque as well as visits to a number of Islamic, educational and cultural institutions.

An amount of SR 888,000 have been allocated for the first five winners of each of the contest’s five branches.
