Italian mafia rakes in $128 billion annually – report

ROME, October 22 (RIA Novosti) – Organized crime is the most profitable business in Italy, according to a report on small and medium-sized firms, submitted to the interior ministry on Monday.

According to the document, annual income from organized crime in the country amounts to 90 billion euros ($127.7 billion), or 7% of the country’s GDP.

The mafia makes from protection rackets alone, imposed on some 150,000 Italian companies, around 30 million euros ($43 billion) annually, the report says.
