New Delhi : Karnataka Tuesday appeared to be heading for a long stint of President’s rule with Governor Rameshwar Thakur meeting President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil to discuss the future of the state.

Thakur, who arrived here late Monday and is likely to stay till Thursday, will Wednesday meet Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and others as well to discuss various projects concerning the state.

His first port of call Tuesday morning was the president, then the prime minister and finally the home minister’s office. His ADC K.V.S. Mane refused to divulge details.

However, informed sources said the Karnataka governor apparently discussed with Patil the appointment of central advisers for the period when the state will be under President’s rule.

Karnataka was put under President’s rule Oct 9, a day after the resignation of chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The 20-month coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fell when Kumaraswamy refused to give up the chief minister’s post, violating his own commitment to the BJP.

There has been intense speculation that a government may be constituted again for the remaining term of the assembly, which has been put under suspended animation and still awaits dissolution.

Thakur’s visit here to finalise his advisers and his deliberations on projects with central ministers indicates that the formation of a government in this term are remote.
