Keonjhar (Orissa) : A woman in this poverty stricken area was Tuesday battling for life in a hospital after she tried to save her husband from immolating himself.
Police said that 25-year-old Sabita managed to save her husband Gayadhara Mohakud of Ukhunda village but sustained 90 percent burns in the process.
Unable to afford treatment for a skin disease that had disfigured his face or help his physically handicapped son, her labourer husband Monday poured kerosene on himself and lit a match. He suffered 40 percent burns.
The couple is undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Keonjhar, about 200 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
They have two children aged five and three. Mohakud had been unemployed for the last month.
