Wellington : A quake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale jolted parts of South Island in New Zealand Wednesday. No casualties or damage was reported.
According to GeoNet, New Zealand’s national earthquake monitor network, the quake that struck at 2.12 p.m. local time (0112 GMT) was centred 20 km east of Reefton at a depth of nine km.
It would have been felt throughout the northern part of South Island and could have caused minor damages in the Reefton area, said GeoNet.
