Reliance Energy is expected to sign a MoU envisaging an investment of Rs.500 billion, say official sources.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was briefed about the expected MoUs at a meeting held Wednesday to review summit preparations. Madhya Pradesh is hosting the two-day meet to attract investments.

“The meeting was informed that about 400 investors are likely to participate in the summit. These include 121 non-resident Indians and foreigners and 253 Indians. Their consent has already been received,” said an industries department official.

Elaborating on the meet, the official said Chouhan would inaugurate an exhibition on industrial development in the state on the opening day.

The chief minister will also hold one-to-one meetings with prospective investors and industrialists. Participants will be taken on a visit to Pithampur and Dewas industrial areas.

Meanwhile leader of the opposition, Jamuna Devi of the Congress, has asked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government to take the opposition into confidence before the meet.

In a letter to Chouhan, Devi asked the government to refrain from acquiring farmland for industries and provide land to industries at market price.

The Congress leader has also demanded that agreements inked during similar meetings in Khajuraho and Bhopal be made public during the meet.
