Aja Kingslay alias Prince, 27, was arrested with his woman accomplice Lailla Conothill, a 47-year-old Indian, after Delhi police raided their residence in Thane locality of Mumbai Monday.

According to police, the duo was apprehended on a complaint by Gaurav Gandhi, whom they had cheated of Rs.100,000 after promising him through Internet a job in a London hotel.

Gandhi in his complaint told police that he came in contact with one Warran Ruffet, who introduced himself as a director of the Hotel Portia London, while chatting on Yahoo! Mail.

Ruffet told him that there are some vaccines in his hotel and he could send photocopies of his passport, photograph and personal information.

After receiving his profile, Ruffet informed Gandhi that he had been selected for the job and asked him to deposit Rs.17,000 for visa processing in the account of one Vimal Patel, police said.

According to police, Ruffet subsequently took Rs.25,000 as a fee for getting an “anti-terrorist certificate” for Gandhi and Rs.60,000 as basic travel allowance in the account of Conothill. The victim was then asked to meet one Hennery Phil Smith in the British High Commission in Delhi for an interview.

But when the victim approached the high commission he was told that no one called Hennery Phil Smith worked there.

“After registering the victim’s complaint at the Sarai Rohilla police station last week a technical and manual surveillance was kept and the accused were arrested,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) Atul Katiyar said.

“The duo has confessed cheating Gandhi and we are investigating how many people they have cheated following the same modus operandi,” he added.

On Tuesday, the Mumbai police had arrested two Nigerian nationals – J. Olukoya and Nalla Sopara – outside a mall in Thane area and recovered 50 gm of fine quality cocaine from them.
