New Delhi : Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Saturday said that it would sue its rival TVS Motors for allegedly violating its patented digital twin spark ignition (DTSi) technology, even as the latter denied any such alleged infringement.

The charges by Bajaj, two days after TVS launched its 125 cc bike ‘Flame’ with controlled combustion variable timing intelligent (CCVTi) technology, said its intellectual property right (IPR) on a digital twin spark ignition technology had been infringed.

“This is a case of IPR infringement. They have used the same technology for their engine that we have successfully used in our products. We will sue them and it will be done gradually,” S. Sridhar, chief executive of Bajaj Auto’s two-wheelers section, told IANS.

But in a subsequent statement, TVS Motors vice-president Cecil Dewars said that his company had not infringed on anyone’s technology.

DTSi engines power some of the popular Bajaj models like Pulsar and Discover. Sridhar said the company holds the global and Indian patent for the technology for small engines.

“In the past we had Chinese companies infringing our patented technology. This is the first time a fellow Indian company is doing it to us,” he said.

Sridhar said it has been a tough going for TVS Motors in the past few months.

“The purpose why they are doing it is for enhanced performance and better mileage. The size of the engine is also same and the construction of engine is also the same,” Sridhar alleged.
