Mumbai : Indian shares continued their upward run for the ninth consecutive session Tuesday, ending slightly higher with a key index gaining 0.28 percent riding on pharma, cement, technology and energy stocks.
The 30-share Sensitive Index (‘Sensex’) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 43.35 points or 0.28 percent higher to end at 15,465.40.
Similarly, the broader 50-issue National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty was up 4.5 points or 0.10 percent to end at 4,479.25.
Private sector energy producer Reliance Energy led the major Sensex gainers of the day, up 5.98 percent at Rs.823.45, followed by drug major Cipla, up 4.45 percent at Rs.179.60, and top textile maker Grasim Industries, up 2.98 percent at Rs.3,023.05.
Top housing finance company HDFC, drug maker Ranbaxy Laboratories, cement major ACC, top carmaker Maruti Udyog, software exporter Infosys Technologies, engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro, India’s largest private firm Reliance Industries, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India were the other index stocks that traded in the green.
