Ramallah : Israeli troops wounded four Palestinians and arrested a Hamas member Tuesday in a ground operation in the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian witnesses and paramedics said.
Early in the morning, more than 30 Israeli military vehicles, including tanks and bulldozers, rolled into the city, surrounded an apartment building and announced southern Nablus a closed military zone, witnesses said.
Groups of children and teenagers threw stones at the invading forces, provoking them to open fire, which left four people injured.
Ghassan Hamdan, a paramedic, said an eight-year-old boy was seriously hurt with a rubber bullet in the head.
The Israeli troops arrested Ahmed Awad, 30, in a nearby building. Local sources from Hamas said Awad was a prominent member of the Islamic movement.
In the northern West Bank town of Jenin, Israeli troops also detained three people.
