New Delhi : Intel Corp, the world largest chip producer, Wednesday blamed the Indian government for not bringing out the semi-conductor policy in time for the company to set up its manufacturing unit in the country.
“We do our manufacturing capacity planning usually years in advance such as we planned in China and Vietnam … We were in communication and discussion with the Indian government also,” Barrett told a press conference here.
“The Indian government was a bit slow in coming out with the semi-conductor manufacturing proposal and missed the period of our commitment in which we had to set up our manufacturing unit,” he added.
The $35 billion chipmaker has set up multibillion dollar manufacturing bases in China and Vietnam.
According to the semi-conductor policy, which was announced by the government Feb 22 and came into effect March 21, a company would need to invest a minimum of Rs.25 billion to avail the incentives for semi-conductor plants and Rs.10 billion for manufacturing of other products.
