Chennai : China and South Korea registered facile victories against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively in the BSNL Asia Cup Men’s Hockey tournament here Thursday.
China netted in 10 goals against a hapless Sri Lanka in a pool B encounter. The islanders however, showed promise by scoring two goals. The Lankan scorers were Camer and Panditharathne. While Camer scored in the 64th minute, Panditharathne put in another through the Chinese defence just a few seconds before the final hooter.
China went ahead in the 11th minute through penalty corner conversion by captain Hu Hui Ren. In the next 40 minutes, the team scored nine goals including a hat trick by De Yunze. The score was 3-0 in favour of China at half time.
In another one-sided match in the same pool, South Korea thrashed Bangladesh 8-0. South Korea went ahead in the second minute with a penalty corner conversion and got the next one through a penalty stroke. Two more successfully converted penalty corners and four field goals saw them home.
The South Koreans led 5-0 at half time.
