“The government is planning to evade the issue by trying to extend the term of the Chopra committee. But the Gujjar committee would not allow this to happen,” expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Prahlad Gunjal said here.

Gunjal, a Gujjar leader, while addressing a press conference said the community would not allow any extension of time to the Chopra committee and it will have to submit its recommendations within the stipulated date of Sep 12.

The high-powered Chopra committee, set up by the state government on June 12 was to submit its report in three months’ time on Sep 12. However, in a letter to the government on Aug 30, the committee had said that it wanted an extension till Dec 15 as it had completed only 40 to 50 percent of the work.

“The government is committed to approve the recommendations of the Chopra committee within the stipulated time and inform the Gujjars about it. Any departure from this commitment would be disastrous and the government would be responsible for it,” warned Gunjal.

He said the third maha panchayat (mass meet) of the Gujjar community to be held on Sep 13 at Dholpur would decide the future course of action.

Gunjal said 300,000 persons attended the mass meet held in Jhalrapatan a few days back and the number would be higher at Dholpur.

He blamed Chief Minister Raje for creating a caste conflict in the state.
