A government spokesman said petrol and diesel stocks had almost dried up in the state with tankers unable to reach the mountainous state from Assam, which is currently reeling under heavy floods and landslides.

“Prices of vegetables, rice and other essentials have gone up manifold in the past three days because the national highway 54 linking Mizoram with the rest of the country has been blocked due to landslides,” the official said.

More than 150 trucks carrying essentials to Mizoram were stranded near Silchar in southern Assam. “Hundreds of people are stranded in Guwahati,” said Rodawnga, a travel agent.
