Baghdad : Four American soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq’s volatile Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, the US military said Saturday.
The blast took place near the vehicle in which the soldiers were travelling Friday, a military statement said without providing further details.
The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification to their next of kin, it added.
Diyala province, which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border, has long been the hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the US-led invasion in 2003.
The latest death brings the number of US soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,780 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
