Indian companies bag global corporate awards

London : Four Indian companies – two each from the public and private sectors – have been selected for the Global Award for emerging economies as part of the annual Golden Peacock Awards for corporate excellence.

The four companies are Oil and Natural Gas Corp and NTPC Ltd from the public sector, and Jubilant Organosys and GTL from the private sector. The award will be presented here Thursday during the 8th International Conference on Corporate Governance.

Vodafone Group Services, headed by Indian-origin CEO Arun Sarin, shares the Golden Peacock Award for CSR Reporting with Coca Cola Enterprises, Union Fenosa and Telefonica 02 Europe Plc.

Indian companies declared winners at the national level of the Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Governance under various categories include LIC India (insurance), Punjab National Bank (banking), Hindustan Construction Company (construction), India Travel House (hospitality), KPIT Ltd (IT), Power Finance Corporation (power), Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (petroleum), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (metal) and Shree Cement (manufacturing).

An awards press release said that the Golden Peacock Awards, recognised as the holy grail of corporate excellence, was a self-assessment tool aimed to accelerate an organisation’s improvement process.

It added that the winners were selected through an elaborate multilevel and transparent assessment process. Ola Ullsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden, chaired the global award jury.

Members of the jury included P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India, Ruud Lubbers, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Olivier Giscard d’Estaing, founder Chairman of INSEAD.

The first level assessment was carried out by a panel of international assessors under the guidance of Pradeep Chaturvedi, the chief examiner. The assessment of Golden Peacock Award for CSR Reporting was carried out by Centre for Sustainability and Excellence based in Greece.
