“For me it was a totally right decision to bring Bernardo (to Real Madrid). And I know what I am saying because I tried to take him to (Argentine giant) Boca (Juniors) a year ago,” Maradona said in an interview to Spanish sports daily Marca published Friday.

“I was very close to bringing him (to Boca), but I understood his reason to stay because he was under contract to Getafe. He is a man of his word, and he was ethical with his club,” the former Argentine star said.

Schuster, with whom he played at Barcelona in the 1980s, Maradona said that he is “tactically perfect, as he was as a player.”

“You could already see back then that he was a great strategist and that he was going to be big as a coach,” said Maradona.

Maradona also spoke about his countryman Fernando Gago, 21, issued from Boca’s youth schemes and currently struggling to get a place in Real Madrid’s starting lineup.

“I find that he is indecisive and is not playing as he knows. The boy has a tough job ahead, but I think Fernando is going to win that battle. I believe in him,” Maradona said.
