Gaza : A spokesman for Islamic Hamas movement in Gaza slammed on Sunday the Israeli cabinet’s decision to free 90 Palestinians from its jails.
“Israel is following the revolving door in arresting and releasing Palestinians, where it arrests whenever it wants and frees whoever it wants. I believe that this is not accepted by our people,” Fawzi Barhoum told reporters.
The Israeli cabinet approved Sunday a release of some 90 Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture to Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
All the prisoners who will be released would mostly be Fatah members and the list only includes prisoners who have not been involved in the murder of Israelis, Israeli government spokesman David Baker told Xinhua.
Barhoum said that “Hamas welcomes the release of any single prisoners, because this would end his suffering… but at the same time Hamas wants to see all Palestinian prisoners have been released.”
Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs said in an official report that there are 11,500 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including some former ministers and members of parliament, in addition to children and women.
Barhoum said “the only language the Israeli occupation forces understands is the language of force, and we in Hamas movement believe that fore would oblige the occupation forces to free more prisoners.”
