Hosseini: US not qualified to host international gatherings

Tehran : Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that the US refusal to issue visa to a number of Iranian officials as well as media persons for the upcoming 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly indicated that the country is not qualified to host international gatherings.

Speaking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, he said this is not for the first time that the Americans refuse to issue visa to Iranian officials.

On crisis in Gaza Strip, he said it was clear that the policies pursued by the Zionist regime, the US and a number of other countries would lead to emergence of such a serious crisis in Gaza.

Besiege of Palestinians in Gaza and denying them access to water, electricity and foodstuff is the root cause of such a crisis, he said.

He expressed the hope that the countries of the region along with international organizations would take necessary measures to end the siege.

Iran will dispatch its humanitarian relief aid to Gaza, he said.

On Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said two technical committees from Iran and Russia are now negotiating and Head of Iran’s Atomic nergy Organization (IAEO) Reza Aqazadeh recently visited Vienna and held talks with his Russian counterpart. Both sides agreed that the committees should continue talks in order to reach an agreement prior to the upcoming visit of the Russian president to Tehran.

On the threats posed by the Zionist regime against Iran’s nuclear centers, he said this is a psychological warfare and the issue has been refuted by the Zionist officials, he said.

On the recent visit of Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to Egypt and his meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister and three of his deputies, he said during the talks, the two sides reviewed mutual, regional and international developments.

Current level of ties between Iran and Egypt is strong and suitable, he said and expressed the hope that the two sides would take proper steps to upgrade mutual ties, he said.

Referring to the efforts of the group 5+1, he said no resolution can deprive the Iranian nation of its legitimate rights.

It is possible to take new initiatives within NPT regulations to remove existing ambiguities to this end, he underlined.

On inspection of Zionist regime’s nuclear sites, he said the issue was raised at the IAEA but all saw that the the plan on a a Middle East free from nuclear weapons was rejected by the US and the Zionist regime, he said.

The IAEA should have the opportunity to inspect the Zionist regime’s nuclear facilities, he sid.

On recent attack made by US troops on Iranian commercial delegation in Iraq, he said the Americans have embarked on abduction of civilians in defiance of all diplomatic norms, he said.

The US has raised many fabricated accusations against Iran but they could not find an Iranian in Iraq to whom they could attribute such accusations, he said.

On next round of talks between Iran and the US on Iraq’s security, he said recent events should be taken into account prior to making any decision in this regard, he said.

On Iran’s nuclear dossier, he said one or two countries are doing their best to force UNSC to issue resolution against Iran, he said, adding that the issue should be resolved between Iran and IAEA.

Resorting to other means are ‘irrational’, he underlined, adding that Iran’s nuclear dossier should be returned to IAEA.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to deliver a lecture at Columbia University to enlighten public opinions, he said.
