Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Monday conveyed his appreciation and admiration to fellow Buddhists monks for advocating democracy and freedom in Burma.
“I extend my support and solidarity with the recent peaceful movement for democracy in Burma,” said the Dalai Lama in a statement.
“I fully support their call for freedom and democracy and take this opportunity to appeal to freedom-loving people all over the world to support such non-violent movements,” he added.
The Dalai Lama also prayed for the early release of the Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Tibetan spiritual leader said: “As a Buddhist monk, I am appealing to the members of the military regime who believe in Buddhism to act in accordance with the sacred dharma in the spirit of compassion and non-violence.”
The Dalai Lama fled Tibet, along with his followers, after a failed coup against the Chinese communist regime. The Tibetan government-in-exile is based in the hill town of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.
