Gaza : The Israeli Knesset (parliament) will hold an extraordinary plenary session Monday to discuss the cabinet decision on the release of 90 Palestinian detainees.
Despite the summer recess, the opposition Likud and Mifdal parties managed to lobby for the session through collecting signatures of MPs, Radio Israel reported.
Before the session, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will meet members of the Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Knesset on the issue of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
The Israeli cabinet approved Sunday Olmert’s suggestion to release the 90 detainees, a move widely seen as a goodwill gesture to Palestinians in the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan.
